According to German media reports, in Germany, the use of solar power generation has developed strongly. In the first seven months of 2023, Germany has already installed more new solar capacity than in 2022. Bavaria takes the lead in installed capacity.
According to data released by the International Renewable Energy Economic Forum (IWR) on the 18th, in the first seven months of 2023, Germany has connected about 593,000 new solar systems to the grid, with a total installed capacity of more than 7,900 megawatts. As a result, Germany's installed capacity in 2023 has exceeded the 7,460 MW installed capacity in 2022. A total of 390,000 new solar systems will be installed in Germany in 2022.
Most of the capacity was installed in Bavaria between January and the end of July, at around 1,980 MW. This is followed by North Rhine-Westphalia (1,340 MW), Baden-Wurttemberg (1,050 MW), Lower Saxony (740 MW) and Brandenburg (610 MW).
According to the report, the German government wants to reduce administrative obstacles and simplify the registration process for private installation of solar energy systems. In addition, agricultural areas will in principle be opened up for the promotion of solar energy systems. However, by 2030, photovoltaic power generation in agricultural areas should be limited to 80 gigawatts. In the future, there may also be more and more solar systems installed on sealed ground, such as parking lots.
