Neoen, a French renewable energy developer that is currently Australia's largest clean energy developer, already has more than 3GW of large-scale photovoltaic power plants, wind power facilities and battery storage systems in operation or under construction, and now aims to triple the installed capacity of its renewable energy generation facilities by 2030.
Neoen has set a goal of owning and operating 10GW of large-scale photovoltaic power plants, wind power facilities and battery storage systems in Australia by 2030 as part of its multi-billion dollar forward investment plan.
Paris-based Neoen announced that its portfolio of renewable energy generation facilities and storage projects currently in operation or under construction in Australia has reached 3.3GW, cementing the company's market position as the country's largest renewable energy developer.
Neoen has invested more than A $4 billion ($2.59 billion) in Australian renewable energy projects over the past decade, but Louis de Sambucy, general manager of Neoen's Australian market, said the company is now planning billions of dollars in spending. Because it wants to increase its installed renewable energy capacity to 10GW by 2030.
De Sambucy said the company aims to have a highly competitive portfolio of PV, wind and energy storage assets in Australia and to use this combination of technologies to plan and design future solutions for grid and energy customers.
"We are firmly committed to continuing to play a decisive role in Australia's clean energy future," he said. He noted that the company already has an extensive development pipeline.
Neoen's portfolio of 20 assets in operation or under construction includes 2GW of renewable energy generation facilities, representing 10% of the installed capacity of utility-scale photovoltaic systems and wind power facilities currently in operation in the country. And 1.3GW/2.8GWh battery storage systems, accounting for about 45% of Australia's grid-scale battery storage systems,
The company's energy storage deployments in Australia include the world's first large-scale battery storage system, the 150MW /193.5MWh Hornsdale Power Reserve battery storage system, now located in South Australia. And 300 MW/450 MWh Victorian Big Battery, which is currently the largest battery energy storage system in Australia.
Pv projects developed by the company include the recently commissioned 400MW Western Downs PV plant in Queensland. The 1,500-hectare project near Chinchilla, Queensland, will also include a 270MW/540MWh battery storage system.
Neoen says being an owner and operator is a core feature of the company's operating business, allowing it to invest in in-house capacity throughout the project life cycle, including an operations control centre in Canberra that primarily monitors the portfolio and manages its market transactions.
Neoen chairman and chief executive Xavier Barbaro said the Australian clean energy market was helping the company grow its global business.
He said: "This is our example and inspiration internationally and the source of many of our innovations. Neoen is a key player in Australia, which is Neoen's number one market."
