Sleeve anchors are an anchoring solution made from steel and stainless steel for cracked and non-cracked concrete and in applications exposed to seismic loads. Sleeve anchors are pre-assembled mechanical expansion anchors consisting of a split expansion sleeve over a threaded bolt body and integrated expander, nut and washer. When the nut is tightened, the cone-shaped stud end is pulled into the expander sleeve, thus wedging it outward and locking the anchor in place. This anchor is available in acorn, hex, rod coupler, flat or round head style for a wide range of applications.
The low level of energy required to hammer in the fixings allows for a force-saving mounting process. In addition, the optimum interaction of the screw shank and anchor sleeve enables a high shear load resistance. The drill hole is made, the anchor is hammered in, and the screw is tightened with a controlled torque. The expansion sleeve expands against the wall of the drill hole. The anchors use friction locking to safely introduce the loads into the base material.
Stainless steel sleeve anchor installation:
Drill a hole in the base material using a carbide drill bit the same diameter as the nominal diameter of the anchor to be installed.
Drill the hole to the specified embedment depth, and blow it clean using compressed air. (Overhead installations need not be blown clean.) Alternatively, drill the hole deep enough to accommodate embedment depth and the dust from drilling.
Place the anchor in the fixture, and drive it into the hole until the washer and nut are tight against the fixture.
Tighten to required installation torque.
How to Remove a Sleeve Anchor
These are far easier to deal with, they are made up of a standard bolt in a sleeve which screws into a wedge shaped cone at the base. So to get them out just undo the bolt and the wedge will most likely fall away into the hole, you then simply remove the sleeve as above, simple really. Or even better, if you don’t need to re-use the hole, just take out the bolt and leave the sleeve in place.
